Job Title: Education and Events Assistant
(6 Month contract)
Hours:25 hours per week (3 Days p/w – flexible to include some evenings and weekends)
Key Purpose:
To deliver the educational aims and objectives of the East Ayrshire Coalfield Environment Initiative, a partnership project run by East Ayrshire Council, RSPB Scotland, Scottish Coal and Scottish Natural Heritage.
Overall Purpose:
1. Develop and deliver a programme of environmental education activities in the coalfield area that will benefit biodiversity and local communities.
2. Provide support to schools, youth groups, scout groups and other community run projects for young people.
3. Encourage local communities to take an active role in CEI projects and promote the CEI, raising awareness of our work.
4. Assist with the planning, preparation and running of CEI events.
5. Demonstrate and promote good conservation practice and encourage other individuals, companies and agencies to do the same.
Main Duties:
1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the CEI education programme; provide regular feedback to the CEI project officer and CEI steering group.
2. Develop a programme of environmental education activities that meet the aims of the initiative and other key policy documents.Liaise with specialist staff in other organisations, particularly the CEI partners to develop these activities.
3. Encourage participation by local schools and youth groups, risk assess all activities.
4. Out with work in schools; assist with the planning, preparation and running of CEI events.
Other Duties:
1. Respond to inquiries from schools and youth groups.
2. Undertake any other duties as outlined by the Project Officer.
3. Help maintain and look after all CEI equipment.

At the moment we have a lot to do in the community wildlife garden in New Cumnock, if you can help keep an eye on things, do a litter pick, plant some plants, weed or water please do!
