Volunteer survey – 24th May 2018: Breeding Birds

Lapwing vanellus vanellus (c) RSPB

Help CEI carry out a Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) in the Muirkirk and North Lowther Special Protection area (exact location to be defined) on Thursday 24th May. Volunteers will be offered a short training and ID session before heading out across the peatland habitat to record breeding bird activity. A follow up survey will be held on Thursday 5th June to repeat the survey and then get an opportunity to try out a bit of territory mapping. This data will be collected prior to and following restoration work to see if our restoration project has benefited the bird populations in the SPA.

A good level of fitness is required as there will be plenty of walking across uneven ground. You don’t need to be a bird expert to join in, but some knowledge of bird species will be advantageous. It will be a good opportunity to brush up your ID skills! Please bring wellies or walking boots/gators, waterproofs, something warm, a packed lunch and a drink and binoculars if you have them.

Please contact Daisy on 07766185987 or via daisy.whytock@ea-cei.org.uk for more information or to register your attendance at the event.
