Help the CEI carry out a peatland vegetation survey at Weitshaw Muir in the Muirkirk and North Lowther Special Protection area on Thursday 29th August. This survey will help assess how well the site is recovering following bog restoration work last winter.
We will be repeating a survey that was carried out last year, which involves recording the presence or absence of key indicator plant species at fixed points across the bog. We will also be recording other wildlife we see during the day.
A good level of fitness is required as area we’ll cover is quite large, and there will be plenty of walking across uneven ground. No previous knowledge of peatland plant identification is required, as training and identification resources will be provided. Please bring wellies or sturdy walking boots/gators, waterproofs, a packed lunch and plenty of water.
We’ll meet at the old Kirk at the west-end of the village of Sorn (OS Grid ref: NS502268) between 9 – 9.30 am before heading the short distance to the parking spot.
