Project details

Make a difference day (MADD) is the largest day in the volunteering calendar and one that CEI are proud to be a part of. In 2005, more than 100,000 people were expected to take part in volunteering activities across the UK.

If you would like to volunteer or suggest a project for CEI to champion please contact us.

In 2009 MADD was held in New Cumnock, volunteers and visitors shared their memories and experiences of New Cumnock's natural environment at the captured through time exhibition.  The information collected will be able to support future projects and identify key areas for conservation and work.

In 2008 MADD was held again in New Cumnock, volunteers planted up foxgloves, sowed seeds and made willow sculptures for the living fence to go in the Community Wildlife Garden.

In 2004 the CEI organised a conservation volunteering day in Woodroad Park Cumnock.

A total of 19 volunteers took part in the event, including Cathy Jamieson MSP, Councillor Tommy Farrell, and representatives from East Ayrshire Council, Scottish Coal and RSPB.

The volunteers undertook a variety of tasks including:

laying 3 tonnes of new pathing material
repairing wooden bridges
clearing and repairing steps
cutting back nettles and brambles
repainting woodwork
removal of non native species that had become established in the wood after being carelessly dumped by gardeners
collecting 17 full bin bags of rubbish

Volunteers meet for a cup of tea at the start of the day
