Volunteer Event: Peatland Dragonfly & Damselfly Survey Training – Airds Moss
August 21 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
We’ll be teaming up with RSPB Scotland to carry out a dragonfly and damselfly survey at RSPB Airds Moss near Muirkirk.
We’ll meet at the Netherwell Wood carpark at 10:30 for a 10:45 start on Wednesday 21st August. Following the successful bog restoration work here there are now more bog pools for breeding dragonflies and damselflies, We will be carrying out a dragonfly transect across the restored peatland and we’ll also sample for larvae in bogs pools..
The survey results will help us show the impact of our bog restoration work on biodiversity and improve species distribution maps. Survey training will be provided and if we have time we’ll also try out other invertebrate survey techniques. All records will be passed to the British Dragonfly Society and appropriate National Recording schemes.
Please dress appropriately for warm weather, apply sunscreen, bring lots of water, some lunch and possibly a sun hat too! Wellies are recommended but the surface will probably be quite dry, so walking boots may be fine as long as you don’t step in a ditch! Nets, pots and ID guides will be provided, but if you have your own, that could be useful.
There is limited parking at the site, so we may need to coordinate lift-sharing from Lugar or Muirkirk.
Please contact email@example.com for more information or to register your attendance at the event.
* NOTE: This event is still to be confirmed weather dependent and may need to be rescheduled at short notice.
