Project description

Chalmerston Open Cast Coal Site (OCCS) is the location of an exciting new native woodland expansion project. 40Ha of native woodland habitat will be established on the stream sides of two glens traversing the hillside. Species such as oak, birch and juniper will recreate the natural woodland habitats that should occur naturally along undisturbed burns and glens throughout East Ayrshire and provide food and shelter for one of Ayrshire’s priority species – the black grouse.
